Week 4

#8 - RSSes - Sometimes Really Simple and Sometimes Not (SRSSN).

I like the idea of RSS but it does cut out the ability to browse over news websites and check out things that look interesting. Of course someone else has chosen what will be on the newspaper websites anyway and that brings up the whole choice and selection issue but part of the interesting thing about scrolling around The Age Webpages, for example is that something out of the ordinary catches your eye and you investigate further. RSS streamlines your information into what you assume will interest you and then you may find that you will go to your regular news sites anyway.

Having said that, I think the idea is great as it makes keeping up with the general areas of news and information that you KNOW you are interested in, very streamline and also very quick. A brief scan down the pages of your RSS feeds and you are up to date with what is happening. Very easy to see why this particular type of information technology has become so successful.
